Audra:

Okay, we're getting somewhere here. I've spent 17 years in the computer business myself - believe it or not, I'm an ex-hacker! (The good kind - I got paid to do it...) :-)

I say that because when you think of a hacker, you think of security. My core business came from people who weren't sure they were secure online. When they needed a security check, they called Stephanie.

From your description of what your business does, I can't figure out a way that "Audra" would come to the front of the small business owner's mind. So first we need to find more focus. It's not that you can't ultimately provide all of these services, but you need to bring them "in the back door" and not be out in front with everything you offer.

I need you to answer this question: Of all of the services you provide, which one:

a. Do you like best?
b. Gives the most value to your potential client?
c. Why does it give value to your potential client?

As we go along, I'll keep giving you questions in little bits so I don't overwhelm you with too much. Here's an example of this process in action:

Last week, Sunday morning, my web designer called me. She was frustrated because she needed to stand out from the competition. Tough job, right? When I asked her what she really liked to do, she said she really wanted to do the graphic design. Did she want to do marketing? Drive traffic? No. Just the design. Well, I've also been working with her on my specialty - creating sites that sell. The referrals I've sent to her have all been very pleased with how they profit from their sites - some have even started getting sales before we started the marketing. With a little thought, we began a re-branding process for her. She is now known as The Web Designer That Makes Your Site Sell! Not many web designers can say that, can they?

So let's work on what you like to do, and what you can say about what you do that no one else can.

Talk soon,

Stephanie

The other areas I'm not really sure what my target market is. Would like to do freelance 3D graphics work for Discovery...my husband has excellent graphics skills.
